Order of the Sinking Star Cart, Rod: setup and facing

Choose the object, face it, then reach the activation square. A cart can arrange position without changing facing.

Move the object, keep the facing

Cart, Rod is a West-area name. The Rod acts on the object directly in front of its holder; a cart can reposition the holder while preserving facing. Work out the target object's destination before setting up the cart.[1][2]

What the Rod moves

The descriptions agree that the object must be directly in front. Sinking Star Walkthrough describes a forward shove that can cross a wall. We have not established a general rule for every occupied landing chain; do not assume any line can always be moved.[2]

  1. Choose the landing position. Follow the line ahead of the object. Check what occupies it before activating.
  2. Position the holder. The relevant object must be immediately in front. Being close to it from another side does not establish this setup.
  3. Use one activation and compare. Inspect the object and any other affected pieces. Undo if the resulting line is different from the one you planned.

A practical cart-facing method

In Sinking Star Walkthrough's example called Puzzle 2, the target is approached facing up. The author describes clearing a notch, stepping up out of it to set facing, then letting the cart push the character right; the Rod is used at the destination. The character's translation and facing are arranged separately.[2]

Use that method only if the notch, cart lane and target match your board. Pause before moving the cart: decide where it must stop and which square you need to occupy when it arrives.

Do not treat “cart rod” as a puzzle number

WikiTactics groups six entries into this region, with four published solutions when checked October 16. Its list order is a reference convention. This page explains operation and a facing setup; it does not promise all six solutions.[3]
