Torc needs a beam and a facing

Stand where a beam reaches the Torc's holder, face the desired direction, then Activate. The community rules say it redirects beams hitting the holder, including reflected beams; without an incoming beam it has nothing to turn.[1]

How to use the Torc

  1. Establish contact. Check that the beam actually reaches the holder's tile. Do this before planning where to redirect it.
  2. Set the facing. Plan the final approach to that tile so the holder faces the direction you need.
  3. Activate once, then inspect. Follow the changed beam to its destination before making the next movement. If it changed the wrong way, undo that activation and fix the approach.

This separates two different jobs: moving the character into the beam and turning the beam toward the next useful position. It is a diagnostic method, not a full-room solution.

When walking onto the tile gives the wrong facing

Sinking Star Walkthrough's Torc guide describes two ways to arrange facing: use a through-wall beam to step into a wall and return, or face the right way before a cart pushes you into position. Its cart method preserves the facing while changing the tile. These are the guide author's interpretations of narrated footage, not footage retested by this site.[2]

Choose the method that exists on your board. A cart-based method is not a reason to search every room for a hidden cart; first identify the available pieces.

Torc the item versus Torc the area

The community catalogue also uses Torc as a West-area name. It lists six entries, with five published solutions when checked October 16. A video guide counts four puzzles and courtyard sequences instead. Those totals describe different cataloguing choices; do not apply a video's “Puzzle 2” to a map's second entry without matching the board.[2][3]
